Atlantica Online – Have You Tried The Most Popular MMO Ever?
Even if you’ve never, ever played an MMO we’re fairly certain you’ll have heard about Atlantica Online. If not then you’ve obviously been living the life of a hermit somewhere far away where Internet access and conversation is banned. We jest of course but seriously Atlantica Online has created quite a following in a very short space of time. This game is simply one of the single most popular free to play (F2P) MMO games out there at the moment
The story for the game is based on good old planet Earth but several thousand years in the past where you play the part of descendant of the lost people of Atlantis. Your one single focus as one of the last Atlanteans is to fight your way across the ancient Earth and once again discover the location of the lost city of Atlantis.
Okay so we have a pretty decent back story there and one that’ll keep people entertained but surely it’s not just a clever storyline that keeps people glued to this game? Not at all – it’s the combat system that sets it apart. This game has a turn-based combat system which is combined with the MMO environment around it – kinda Pokemon style combat if that makes sense?
This combat system is what has people hooked because it’s just totally different to anything else you find out there and is more reminiscent of RPGs from several years ago than a modern MMO like this one featuring amazing graphics and sound.
The character creation process is also a little bit different to what you’ve come to expect from MMOs. Instead of choosing a specific class you actually wind up choosing a specific weapon type instead so you become one of these: Spear, Sword, Axe, Gun, Cannon, Staff, Maniac or Musician – the musician looks exceptionally cool as a character or weapon class. It just feels like Motley Crue the MMO when you see this weapon class.
When it comes to the actual combat you get to fight with mercenaries in this game because turn based one-on-one combat is boring. Your mercs have their own unique characteristics and can level up just like a normal player character. You start off the game with 2 mercenaries on your side and you can recruit up to 6 more to fight with you in your total group of 9 which will make for some pretty interesting scraps!
Towns obviously exist and give you a place to buy resources for crafting but a guild can also lay claim to an entire town itself and then earn money from the taxes from the town. At higher levels entire cities can fall under the control of your guild but that’s beyond the scope of this review.
An MMO with fantastic graphics and a truly unique combat system and a nice twist on the character class creation process. Interested? You should be!
