World of Ants FB

It’s great to see software developers being creative and having a strategy/resource management game revolving around the World of Ants is a neat little idea. But how does it all hold together after the cuteness factor wears off – is there really a browser game here worth playing or is it just a gimmick? Is World of Ants the next big Facebook game?

First things first you won’t need to download anything to play which makes perfect sense considering the game isn’t using any flashy 3D visuals. Not that the graphics of the game aren’t appealing but they don’t get carried away with themselves trying to be something they’re not – if you get me?

Getting started with the game is pretty easy all you need to do is just login to your Facebook account and activate the app. There’s a brief tutorial that explains what you have to do and then it’s time to start working on your quests – even though it would seem to make more sense to call them challenges maybe? The interface is pretty straightforward and the graphics in the game are very Disney in their styling but this works really well for the game itself.

You need to build up a variety of different chambers inside your anthill help make your anthill prosperous – these are everything from storage facilities to water supplies. You can level up the types of chambers you’re building and monitor them in the construction queue as your anthill grows and expands.

As with any MMO there’s a unit of currency involved and, fittingly enough, in World of Ants the currency is the ever-tasty sugar cube. The more sugar cubes you have the more you can speed up your production schedule as well as adding to the overall resources that your colony has.

But this game isn’t just about managing your own colony. Oh no. As time moves on you’re going to have to venture out into that big ant world and start looking at other ant colonies that you can conquer. You have more than 12 different unit types to choose from when the time for all out ant war has come.

Definitely a different slant on the whole MMO game and has a refreshingly clean interface that lends itself well to user interaction.

I enjoyed my time playing World of Ants and I hope you do too.
